Young Optics is a Taiwan based company that is engaged in the manufacture and sale of electrical components and optical devices. The company distributes its products within the domestic markets and overseas markets including North America, Europe and the rest of Asia. The company revealed that three handset vendors, two digital camera vendors and a number of other multimedia device vendors have adopted its built-in pico projectors in their products.
Young Optics is expecting to start shipping their best mini projectors for mobile phones and they are aiming to ship one million units this year. The company is expecting the sales of the product to contribute 10-15% to its total revenue for 2010 compared to the 5% in 2009. Young Optics has really high expectations with the global shipment of built-in pico projectors. In fact they are expecting that the shipment will reach 1.8 million units this year, 7.63 million units in 2011 and a larger increase to17.59 million units in 2012.
Young Optics said that its first projectors would be based on LED for illumination. However the company admits that this method drains the battery power very quickly. That is why they are looking at having their future versions based on semi conductor lasers for lesser use of power to project images.
With the increasing number of individuals who have genuine interest with finding the best mini projectors out there, it will never be surprising if Young Optics will be able to meet or even exceed their target contribution of pico-projector shipment to the company’s total revenue this year and in the coming years. The people behind pico-projector technology may not have hard time to prove that their product really has a serious potential to redefine the mobile display viewing experience.
